Ultimately the kiosk offline settings should make sense for the business and what is reasonable for customers to expect a text message.

In general these are our recommendations.

Message Blackout Period: IF/When the tablet reconnects to the WiFi and resyncs, the blackout period prevents messages going out during this time.

  • Not Before: 9:00 AM
  • Not After: 7:00 PM/8:00 PM

Message Expiration: If the WiFi is unable to connect, the message expiration will prevent the system from sending out the missed reward and welcome messages after so many days have passed.

  • Anywhere from 7 days to a month, depending on how often messages are sent out and how long offers are good for will determine how long to set the expiration.

Offline Kiosk Message: This message appears on the kiosk when the kiosk is offline. This should be phrased differently that the kiosk display texts, and in most cases, draw employee attention to the WiFi issue.

  • Message: "Thank you! Your check-in has been recorded."

  • Message: "Thank you! Our kiosk is currently offline, but your check-in has been collected. We will add it your total once our tablet is back online"

  • Message: "Your check-in has been recorded. Please notify a staff member that the kiosk is currently offline."
