It's important to understand the difference between using ~coupon~ and ~redeem~ in a text message.

When using ~coupon~ the system will insert one of the available coupon codes activated for the selected coupon. If no coupon codes are available that the system can issue, a period (.) will show up in the text message in place of the coupon code.

If trying to issue a coupon using the redeem widget then, ~redeem~ MUST be used instead of ~coupon~. This coupon option will generate a link in the text message that can be redeemed on the phone or kiosk depending on the setup. Using ~redeem~ also provides tracking information that can be viewed anytime in the coupon itself or through the Coupon Redemption Log.
